2iE’s training offer is in conformity with the standards of European educational system (Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD Degrees) organized in semesters and credits, with a Bachelor of Science in Water and Environmental Engineering (3 years, i.e. 6 semesters), a Master of Science in Water and Environmental Engineering (2 years – 4 semesters). The doctoral school has set a PhD program to complete the process. 2iE’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees have been accredited by the French Engineering Title Commission (CTI) since 2009.
Initial vocational training programs are also available: Bachelors of Technology, Specialized Master’s Degrees. These programs are open to individuals working in the public/private sectors, companies, entrepreneurs, etc. who would like to further their engineering studies.
Student population increase helps meet the growing need in the fields of water, environment, energy, transportations, and infrastructures. In 2009, more than 850 students enrolled in 2iE’s on-site courses. More than 1,000 students are expected in 2010. An approach to follow-up and improve quality has been implemented since late 2009 for ISO certification in order to preserve 2iE’s degrees quality and reputation. 2iE is committed to promoting multicultural values through: a wider range of nationalities, an increase of female students’ percentage (17% enrolled for the Bachelor’s program in 2010), staff and student bilingualism (English courses), increased mobility via exchange programs and internships in academic partners.
Open and Distance Education Program
Open and Distance Learning is essential to 2iE development strategy. By 2015, 2iE aims to have more than 5,000 students with half of them enrolled at open and distance learning programs.
2iE’s open and distance training offer is available on Moodle platform. This latter is equipped with communication, organization, publication and dissemination tools with in-class meetings. The pedagogical approach includes an intensive follow up process handled by tutors who supervise learners and ensure the achievement of training goals. Students work in a collaborative and problem-based learning mode, in groups of 3 to 4 people, case studies or mini projects.
A distance learning tutor ensures good training conditions through communicating and collaborating with students from enrolment to completion.
2iE is contributing quite a lot to building professional capacities of African executives and employees through its continuing education program.
Thus, 2iE’s continuing education program enhances professional empowerment in engineering, based on a general need assessment in order to set up relevant training plans and modules. Training programs are available in the fields of Water, Environment, Energy, Civil Engineering and Managerial Sciences.
2iE is today offering well elaborated and adapted training programs in Burkina Faso but also in other countries in West and Central Africa. A consistent quality management system that helps trainees assess efficiency supports 2iE continuing education system.
About 1,500 professionals from 28 countries were trained in 2008/2009. This figure has risen to 3,000 by late 2009.
