Preparatory classes to the Grandes Écoles (French Network of Elite University –level Institutes) are post A-level classes, whose vocation is to prepare students for the Grandes Ecoles entry competition.

Why a Preparatory class integrated into 2iE?

The Women’s Excellence Program to enter Engineer Programs in Africa was opened in 2012 in order to promote the access of young people and more specifically women to engineering jobs. Developed and provided in partnership with EPF – Engineering School in France (Ecole d’ingénieur France), it allows the acquisition of an excellence level in fundamental and applied sciences.

It prepares within two years to take the entrance exam of recognized engineering schools, which recruit at 2-year university degree level. The implemented program is general enough to open up the door of schools in the areas of Civil engineering, computer sciences, Tele communications, Electricity-Electro technic-Electronic, etc.

In order to open the access to the best students who stem from modest families, several companies have committed themselves to participate to the tuition fees of the female students.  The 1st promotion (2012 – 2013) gathered 18 young women and two young men.

Learning Outcomes

This Women’s Excellence Program to enter Engineering Programs constitutes an access path to carry on long studies (5 to 8-year university degree). It aims at providing students with:

  • Solid capacity and work methodology.
  • Knowledge in fundamental and applied sciences
  • Rigor and organization.
  • Through languages and philosophy teaching: a high level general culture and a big capacity of adaptation.

Prospects

The WEPEP is an access path to carry on studies in:

  • Bachelor’s program 3 – 3rd year of training – at 2iE or EPF: selection after consideration of the application.
  • Bachelor’s program 3 at the University
  • Engineering Schools (Civil Engineering, Computer Sciences, Tele communications, Electricity-Electro technic-Electronic, Mechanics, Material Sciences, Hydraulic, Optic, Chemistry): selection upon application or entrance exam.

Entry level and admission requirements  

  • To hold a scientific A-level or equivalent

Selection is after consideration of the applications. From the analysis of school results from first year till final year of high school (French, Physics Sciences, Maths) and A-level results. `

Onsite.

Tuition Fees

  • 1 900 000 FCFA per year

Excluded travel expenses and accommodation. A payment schedule in four installments exists to facilitate payment.  There are grants, subsidies and credit funding solutions.

Studies Organization

The teaching methods are organized around lectures, tutorials and practical work sessions. Tutorials are given a prevailing role with the use of the IT tool.

Assessment is carried out via continuous control exams. It included oral and written exams, supervised homework, individual or team projects. Work is intensive but a one-week break is given on average after 6 weeks of classes.

Training lasts 2 years. Each year includes 2 studies semester. The work volume corresponds to 60 credits per year. The 60 credits of the first year must be acquired to enter in 2nd year. Those of the 2nd year are acquired upon opinion of the Teachers’ Council. There is no possible resit of the first year.

In 2nd year, a Supervised Work of Personnel Initiative (SWPI), must be prepared and presented by the student on a subject oh his/her choice.  Students in second year carry out a tutorial of newcomers.
