Stimulated by the population growth and the high urbanization, the building and public works areas, as well as those of Transportation and Hydraulic networks are experiencing a high growth in Africa: an annual average ranging from 12% to 15%. To promote their development, they need a strong staff endowed with technical, managerial and administrative skills. Yet, training programs rarely emphasize those elements which are required to manage projects and services.

The Master’s program in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering helps to meet this expectation. It proposes a full approach from the completion and maintenance to project management support. This approach takes into account risks, safety, the legal framework and economic and environmental interactions as well

Development of policies regarding transportation, transportation plans implementation, the assessment of the opportunity and impacts of tremendous infrastructures projects, the optimization of road developments, are so many planning activities where modeling tools are necessary to support decision-making. To meet that approach, the Master’s Degree in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering enables to train multi-skilled engineers endowed with much diversified skills in the fields of traditional buildings and those with High Environmental Quality (HEQ), roads, civil engineering works, dams, coastal works, hydraulic infrastructures (networks for water supply, waste waters, rainwater and solid waste) and managerial sciences. These students can be efficient from the stage of design through implementation stage to operation, taking into account maintenance and deconstruction.

Entry level and admission requirements

The Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Hydraulics is open to applicants holding:

  • Scientific and technical background (Senior Secondary School Certificate, GCE/ O/Level and A/Level with credits in Mathematics, Physics and Science/Integrated Science, or a West African Senior School Certificate Examinations) to register in 1st year of Bachelor (study period: 5 years)
  • Two-year university degree in science or technical areas, bachelor or any other equivalent degree to register in 3rd year of Bachelor in science (study period: 3 years)
  • Master’s degree in science, diploma in civil engineering (3 years after high school degree) or any other equivalent degree to register in 1st year of Master’s studies (study period: 2 years)

Selection is made through application review depending on the number of available places per class and session.
