Facing the deep and rapid mutations that experience Developing countires, 2iE has chosen to give priority to sustainable development at the heart of its research themes. This approach has led to the implementation of a technological, educational and scientific platform unique in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Focused on Water, Energy, Environment, Civil Engineering, Mines and Managerial Sciences, 2iE's Doctoral School gathers today more than 40 PhD students in co-supervision. Inernational and inter-university, it benefits today from several University research partners throughout the world.

To carry out 2iE's research strategy, it enjoys the expertise of 2iE's Research laboratories and the Technopole.

The Doctoral School enables the student to acquire a solid scientific background whilst keeping in touch with the field reality, in order to provide answers that meet the social and economic realities of African countries. It delivers a Ph.D in Sciences and Technologies, Water, Energy and Environment. Internationally oriented, it favors thesis in co-supervision or co-support, except particular conditions regarding funding or confidential aspects.

In order to facilitate students’ employability, a particular focus is given to the development of their professional projects, Scientific upgrade seminars, training programs for research and publication, as well as conference cycles are also scheduled for this purpose.  The program gathers modules that not only refer to engineering sciences but also human sciences.  The range of themes covered is multi-disciplinary and deals with:

  • The protection and management of natural resources.
  • The Management of polluting emissions.
  • The development of new energy sources.
  • The development of innovative and non-polluting materials

To do so, the program also refers to the following modules:

  • Sciences of natural environments
  • Hydrology Sciences.
  • Energetic and process engineering.
  • Civil Engineering and Material sciences.
  • Environment Physics and Chemistry Sciences
  • Models and complex systems.

2iE offers the possibility for companies which are interested, to benefit from the expertise of its joint research centers for the implementation of R&D projects. These projects may respond to needs in technological, social or economic innovation, met by professionals and/or populations of a given sector. Several R&D projects are currently carried out in partnership at 2iE in the areas of Eco-habitat, energy, water or environment. They fit into the institute’s vision: build tomorrow’s world:

  • Sonichar / 2iE: Innovative Eco-materials based on bottom ashes (from thermal power plants).
  • Scatec-Solar: Photovoltaic solar central of 20 MWc.
  • Energy Pool: Electrical Modulation Central.
  • Vergnet Hydro: Treatment technique of arsenic at low cost and without energy input.
  • Photalia: Solar Electro-chlorator
  • Total Burkina: installation in Kamboinse technological park (2iE) of a lab container (analysis of lubes and fuels.)

Method

After defining the R&D object, an agreement between 2iE and the company is signed that integrates technical, organizational, financial and legal aspects. In the Agreement Annexes are attached the terms of references, planning, detailed budget, etc.
